Made by hand

I often glorify objects which are the product of fine craftsmanship. And even though I would not dare to call this particular thing fine craftsmanship, it is definitely a try for it.

To show you that I am not just writing about it, I am showing you a thing I made with my own hands and with a help from few sophisticated machines.

Some years back, I was going to metalturning course. It was on Technical university in our city and it was awesome! We learned both some theory snd praxis and as a final project we made this. A puzzle made of three pieces. The bottom wood piece was made, sawn and sanded by hand. The middle piece was made on mechanical lathe. Lathe is a machine, which rotates a piece of metal around axis, so it can be cut into symetrical pattern. And finally the top piece was made on CNC lathe. CNC stands for computer numerical control. It is a special kind of cutting machine, which operates extremely precisely. The input is a file with all the angles and dimensions it should cut.

We learned just some basics of all these works. However, it was one of the moments where I learned more about how things are made and what does it need to make them. And I learned to appreciate it.

Cheers
