Too much on my plate and school is coming

Summer holidays are going to end in a few days for me and I barely finished a fraction of what I intended to do. Sad realization. But maybe it is not that bad. Some things cannot be rushed.

Some things cannot be rushed. At least not when they should be top quality. It is a classical quality-price-time triangle. And since there is no money involved whatsoever and I want quality to be adequate, the thing that needs compromise is the time.

I spend whole yesterday testing rendering of LEGO. Those interested in architecture might recognize rooftop of Villa Savoye from Le Corbusier. However, I am not satisfied with the result. These renderings will be for my perhaps-one-time-in-the-distant-future book about LEGO and Architecture. For that book, I have a framework, but now I wanted to test how it could look like. For my e-book 7 core principles of architecture explored through bricks, I used photography cutouts of things I built with my own hand. But a book of a bigger scope would probably deserve renderings because I believe it would look cleaner.

And then there are Archilectures. ANOTHER new project I made up. And making these is…slow. Because I cannot sketch. As I realized halfway through. But I have already started and promised 10 lectures, so I have to continue. It will be a proper challenge for me.

The first lecture was okay since the drawing was only two-dimensional. But as soon as I try to draw 3D I see that I never had any proper sketching training. And for me, sketching is an important tool. And I believe every architect should know how to sketch…to some extent. There are architects who know how to sketch very well and then there are those whose sketches look super sloppy and they are still great architects. Maybe it would be interesting to compare some of the great architects and their sketches.

Nonetheless, I want to learn to sketch better, because as I already mentioned sketching is a language. Language that is hard to learn, but everybody understands it. And I want to be understood.

When I was visiting the Czech Republic, I bought a quadrocopter (Not a drone – that is a common misconception, since drones are autonomous and they are usually much more expensive). I have just a cheap (70EUR) Syma X8C. Drones and similar devices are becoming common practice for architects and in the construction industry in general and more importantly, it is fun to fly with them. So I bought one to test how it works and maybe later I will buy a better one if it will be worth it.

So that is another thing I am doing at the moment, learning to fly a quadrocopter. I will write a post just about it when I will know more and I will feel comfortable with piloting.

And tomorrow, I am going to school. School on Saturday? Have I gone bananas? Not at all. I am going to be a mentor. That means they will assign a group of first semester students and I will be there for them both personally and professionally. And for that, I am going to learn few tips and tricks tomorrow.

And proper school starts on Wednesday.

I can’t wait.

Cheers
